Student Welfare

The welfare and well being of our students is our main priority and our dedicated staff team are available 24 hours per day to assist with any needs that a student might have during their stay with us.

We realise studying away from home can be exciting and daunting, students will face new experiences socially and academically and we are here to support them throughout their stay.

We have 1 member of staff to supervise every 6 students. The balance of support, supervision and mentoring from our staff ensures that students can make the most of their experience.

Your Student Support Manager is your main point of contact at head office and works closely with the team at the school to ensure you have the very best experience at Headington Oxford Summer School. Many of our Student Support Managers have worked at our summer colleges and schools and their wealth of experience provides expert care and support.

Summer School Management Team

Our Management team take responsibility for every aspect of student welfare, along with the day to day running of the school. The Summer School Director, supported by the Welfare Coordinator, Office Coordinator, Student Director and House Parents ensures that the students are fully engaged in summer school life and are happy and well during their stay. The Director of Studies oversees the Academic Programme, whilst The Social Programme Coordinator leads the team of Activity Leaders to provide a dynamic and engaging Activity Programme.

House Parents

House Parents are key members of summer school staff whose main duty is overseeing the welfare of our students. The House Parents are always available in the boarding houses and also help during break and meal times. They offer our students a friendly face with whom they can discuss any specific welfare issues.

The different English course options are all taught by our professionally qualified teachers, with two 90-minute lessons taking place on five mornings each week. Our teachers also assist in ensuring the general welfare of students, as well as helping deliver activities and excursions.

Activity Leaders

Our Activity Leaders are responsible for implementing the Activity Programme and Excursion Programme. The Activity Leaders ensure that the students are enjoying the activities, that they are having fun and practising their English.


Summer Boarding Courses is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We have a comprehensive Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and procedures in place which all employees, volunteers and contractors are expected to adhere to.

We pride ourselves on offering the best possible support to students, confirmed by an official Area of Strength in The Care of Under 18’s, and Care of Students by the British Council accreditation scheme.
